How does everyone else have the time to keep their stuff updated?? I feel really badly that I have not had time to try the SWIFT stuff out yet. Maybe while I'm waiting at O'Hare???

My CIL schedule, rather hurriedly thrown together:

Sunday, 4/6 - arrive at Crystal City around 9:15 PM. Check in. Find my coworker, Roberta Johnson. Unpack, begin to panic.

Monday, 4/7 - Keynote with Lee Rainie -- he gives me such excellent little amuses bouches of information with which I can wow my coworkers.

10:30 AM - probably Going Local in the Library

1:30 PM - Fast & Easy Site Tune-Ups

4:15 PM - Library Staff Training - High Tech & High Touch

5:00 PM - Exhibit Hall

5:45 PM - meeting colleagues from all over the Chicago area for dinner. We're meeting by the Proquest booth, so hey, if you want to have dinner with a great group of people, come on along.

Tuesday, 4/8 - tempting as it is to sleep in and prepare for my own talk, I CANNOT miss the Shanachie guys. I will stumble down in some jeans, I think, then take a little time to gussy up and prepare later in the morning.

11:30 AM - Drupal and Libraries

After lunch, I am part of the Content Management track (Track B) so I will probably hang out in that particular room/track to meet my colleagues.

4-5 P.M. I'm on, with Nick Baker from Williams College, at Video, YouTube & Libraries. Please come and check us out!

After that, I will be thinking about nothing but a celebratory dinner and perhaps some shopping. I was depressed that we could not submit anything to the InfoTubeys this year -- but my videos are always too dang long. Maybe next year...just like the Cubs.

Wednesday, 4/9 - still undecided. Have to be at National Reagan by 12:45 PM, so morning sessions only. Is it time for Internet Librarian yet???

I am frantically getting ready to leave for DC on Sunday night. We are three weeks away from rolling out our new Web site, so I'm really up to my eyeballs in work. I'm really looking forward to CIL2008, however, and giving my presentation on libraries and video. In fact, another project I'm trying to get going here at my library is a singing, dancing spectacular video to publicize our upcoming fundraising event, Do the Dewey. We've built our own YouTube channel for that, How Do You Dewey - check it out! That's one of our How Do You Dewey videos up above.

Hi, I am Karen McBride, Web Services Librarian at the Des Plaines Public Library, rather conveniently located in Des Plaines, IL. (Crazy, I know.)

I had a great time attending Internet Librarian last year so now I am really looking forward to speaking at Computers In Libraries '08. I will be talking about my experiences in developing a YouTube presence for our library with almost no budget and an equal amount of video production experience. I am still relatively new at Des Plaines, having spent 16 years at a community college library. My position here at DPPL is also new, and all of us are still ironing out just exactly what a "Web Services Librarian" does. While I have experimented with several 2.0/Social Web apps so far, our YouTube page, PlainTalk TV, has by far been the most popular with our patrons. I'm still stunned to think that 6 months ago, I'd never filmed or edited a video, much less uploaded one to the Internet, so I'm thrilled that our patrons and community enjoy the videos. So if you have an interest in making Web videos about your library but feel like you lack the knowledge, expensive equipment and software and overall savvy, come to the YouTube session at Computers in Libraries '08 and let us give you a pep talk and some tips for getting started.

I'm also dying to go back to Les Halles, one of the best restaurants in D.C. If a crab cake sandwich from the Eastern Market could also be involved, all the better. See you in April!
